It’s easy to make fun of the omnipresence of pumpkin spice everything at this time of year; sometimes it feels like it’s hard to step outside without getting a whiff of those familiar fall flavors, much less sit in a coffee shop. But if we’re being honest, can we just all agree that it’s a cliché for a reason? That flavor combo is just really darn delicious, and since I’m already waving my pumpkin spice freak flag high, I might as well go ahead and spill the smoothie recipe I’ve been craving ever since the first hints of fall arrived this year. Keep scrolling for the recipe, and don’t worry if you get hooked on it too — it can be our little secret.

Five easy ingredients is all it takes — I always keep these on hand so I’m ready to blend at a moment’s notice.
- Pumpkin purée
- Banana (freezing it beforehand gives the creamiest consistency)
- Almond Milk
- Dates
- Pumpkin Pie Spice
Puréed pumpkin is such a genius way to sneak some veggies into your breakfast. I always keep a few cans of organic pumpkin on hand, and if I make a loaf of this pumpkin bread, I have half a can leftover that I can use in this recipe.
Into my KitchenAid® Pro Line® Series Blender it goes (We just got this one for the new studio kitchen, and I’m obsessed!).
This smoothie is often filling enough to stand in for breakfast, but if you want to add some extra protein, a scoop of plant-based vanilla protein powder would be delish. For some healthy fats, try subbing in full-fat coconut milk instead of the almond milk. And chia seeds are always a great way to add a hit of protein, fat, and fiber to any smoothie.
I’ll admit, I have a history of pumpkin spice addiction! Here are some of my other favorite ways to satisfy it:
Pumpkin Spice Tacos (yep, you heard that right)
Healthier Pumpkin Bread with Walnut-Cinnamon Streusel
Pumpkin Salad with Pomegranate & Cumin Yogurt
And of course, I’d love to hear your favorite pumpkin recipes in the comments!
Ingredients
- 1/4 c pumpkin purée
- 1/2 frozen banana
- 1 cup almond milk (or milk of your choice)
- 2 teaspoons of peanut or almond butter
- 1 date, or a dash of maple syrup, or a few drops stevia
- A few shakes pumpkin pie spice
- 1 cup ice
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla (optional)
Instructions
Combine everything in a blender, and blend on high until smooth. Drink up!

This sounds delish. Just checking…..your pic shows what looks like peanut butter but the recipe say date’s. So I am wondering if you are using some type of “date butter” . Either way, I am sure it will be good.
Good catch!! It has both. 🙂 Adding to ingredients list now.
Sounds amazing! Quick question: It looks like there is peanut/almond/nut butter in the picture of ingredients — was this supposed to be added to the ingredient list? Thank you!
thanks hayley! Yes! Adding to ingredients list now. 🙂
How funny I hadn’t seen the addition of nut butter but I randomly added almond butter and it was a delicious add. My husband keeps asking me what I’m sipping on, hands off!?
I really liked this creamy smoothie, but personally found it tasted too much of peanut butter so I think I’ll do more pumpkin and less peanut butter next time. Otherwise, really good recipe thanks!
It was good. I put too much ice in so a little slushy. The baby loved it as well in our random 90 degree Oct. Heat wave.
